The Birth Of Memory Modules

At first, the memory used by computers was made up of individual ICs, which we had to solder onto the motherboard to function properly. Once one of the memory ICs broke, it had to be soldered off before replacement, which was really difficult.
Later, computer designers invented modular strip mounted memory, with multiple memory ICs integrated into each strip. Correspondingly, memory slots were designed on the motherboard, allowing the memory strips to be easily disassembled. From then on, memory maintenance and expansion became very convenient.
