On the heat dissipation of some all-in-one machines, there is a shadow of laptop heat dissipation design. The host part of this all-in-one machine (the host and screen are separated and made into a base style) is very similar to traditional laptop design, with compact space, integrated structural design, and even deeply imprinted with the imprint of laptop design in the form of heat pipes and fans. But for the most performance oriented all-in-one computers, such as the Lenovo IdeaCentre B5 series, we can see that their heat dissipation design is very different from laptops, with huge heat sinks and numerous fans. This layout structure is more like a heat dissipation design for desktop computers.
In fact, the reason for this difference is very simple, which is the heat generation of the platform. For all-in-one machines that use the MODT platform (Mobile on DeskTop, which refers to the use of mobile platforms on desktop platforms), the heat generation of the platform is not much different from that of laptops. Both the CPU and graphics card use mobile chips, so using laptop heat dissipation design can simplify the structure, reduce the weight and size of all-in-one machines. On the contrary, for the most performance oriented all-in-one computers, although the graphics cards are mostly integrated in design, the processor performance can completely compete with traditional desktop computers. With a quad core CPU and high heat generating components such as high-end graphics cards, the overall heat generation can even exceed 200W, which exceeds the upper limit of notebook heat dissipation design. In this case, introducing more fans and larger heat sinks to achieve better heat dissipation becomes inevitable. Therefore, the heat dissipation structure of all-in-one computers is modeled after laptops, but it also combines the structure of laptops and desktops, making many optimizations and improvements.
